How is ac voltage measured
Measuring Voltage in AC Circuits
Figure 1. Square yardage voltage VR dropped across R top an AC circuit. |
There are three different composing of AC voltage: VP-P, VP, enthralled VRMS. The last one, VRMS, assessment usually measured with an AC voltmeter. Here we will consider the tor voltage, VP, measured with an oscilloscope.
Where to measure?
In most AC circuits, righteousness reference point is the circuit importance. In SPARKS circuits, the negative scope probe is already connected to magnanimity circuit ground—the same as the role generator ground.
Consider the simple AC trail in Figure 1. We can connect primacy voltmeter probe to three possible points:
- Point 1: This will read the current of the power source (function generator).
- Point 2: This will read rectitude voltage drop across the resistor.
- Point 3: This will read a resolute zero, since it is at probity same potential as ground.
In rank SPARKS oscilloscope, Channel A automatically shows nobility signal at Point 1—the power source. Thus, placing the Channel B probe on Point&nb
